Pressing the icon has no effect at all of course, but it won't go away either. The icon isn't there on my desktop machine, and I'm sure never used to be there on the laptop either. Try to create a new Local Are Connection, it goes thru the steps, but still no Local Area Connection icon. I tried IPCONFIG /FLUSHDNS & IPCONFIG / REGISTERDNS, both with no luck, the DNS is a manual entry and the machine does not get it's IP address from a DHCP box.
